Description
Managing Your Line Without the Usual Friction
I’ve been using VIVA APP for a couple of months now, and it’s essentially a one-stop telecom management tool for VIVA Bolivia subscribers. Instead of dialing USSD codes or visiting a physical store, you can top up data, check remaining megabytes, pay bills, and even activate prepaid roaming directly from your phone. What hooked me was the promise of zero data charges for using the app itself – it runs on a separate free access point, so you never burn your balance just to check your balance. That alone makes it worth installing if you’re tired of credit disappearing to administrative costs.
Prepaid Roaming and T-Presta: Two Standout Features
Most Bolivian carriers offer postpaid roaming, but VIVA APP is the only place I’ve seen that lets prepaid users buy roaming packages before traveling. I tested this during a trip to Peru – purchased a 1GB roaming plan via the app, and it activated within minutes. No surprise charges later. Another nice touch is VIVA T-Presta, a small interest-free credit loan that shows up in your account when you’re out of balance. It’s capped at around 10 Bs and must be repaid within 48 hours, but it’s saved me twice when I couldn’t find a top-up seller. The app also supports QR payments for recharging, though I found that some smaller corner shops don’t accept them yet – you’re better off using a debit card directly.
A Few Drawbacks From Daily Use
After a month of heavy use, a couple of limitations became obvious. First, the app’s interface feels a bit cluttered – there are icons for bags, refills, loans, postpaid settings, and support all crammed onto one screen. Navigating to the consumption tracker takes an extra tap because it’s hidden under a menu. Second, the prepaid roaming option only covers select Latin American countries; if you’re heading to Europe or Asia, you’re out of luck. Third, T-Presta requires you to have made at least one recharge in the last 30 days to qualify, which isn’t clearly stated upfront. These aren’t dealbreakers, but they add small frustrations you won’t see in the promotional material.
Performance-wise, the app runs smoothly on mid-range Android devices (I tested it on a Moto G52), but loading the main dashboard after opening can take 3–4 seconds on slower 3G connections. The 24/7 chat support is responsive, but live agents sometimes take 10 minutes to reply during peak hours. If you’re a heavy user who needs granular control over every megabyte, VIVA APP is a solid upgrade from USSD codes. Just don’t expect it to replace a full-fledged billing dashboard – it’s built for quick actions, not deep analytics.
