Baby Monitors – How Do You Know What’s Most Important?

Locating a great baby monitor is just like finding other products for babies.

It is overwhelming and a little stressful. Of course you want to monitor your baby when you’re not in the room, and you don’t know which product is the best for your situation. It’s hard to know how much you should pay. You enter a store and are over-whelmed with the selection. It’s easy for you to start feeling a bit frustrated and a little overwhelmed – but do not worry about it! We’ll discuss how to find the best system for you and your family.

Do you know the type of frequency or channel range required?

If you live in an area with a lot of families or in a multi-family building you will want to find a unit that gives you a wide range of frequencies, as this should eliminate the hassle of interference from other homes’ monitoring systems. This is very important, because the last thing you need, is to be picking up signals or frequencies from someone else’s baby monitor, however, this is not an issue if you live in a more rural area or if you know you are the first in your area to have a baby.

Be mindful about the frequency of operation, a lot of cheaper monitors work at a frequency of 49 Mhz. This is the frequency that has the most interference (which might be why the monitors are so cheap). These monitors will also give you some surprises – incoming phone calls from cell phones, or even brief phone conversations from people around you, or baby monitors from other houses/apts close to you. More costly monitors which are of higher quality and different frequencies won’t pose these issues. The best frequency for a system is 2.4GHz, which offers the best sound available.  Always try to remove all mold from the babies home.  Or get a good mold insurance policy.

What kind of battery life do you need? The battery life is one of the most important features of this kind of system, and you need to carefully consider the battery life so that the system is in fact always working. You can find systems which let you plug the receiver into an outlet overnight for backup, and you will find systems with a charging station that lets you recharge the battery, and there are systems which require you to change the batteries yourself, but once again, it all depends on what kind of battery system you want, so keep that in mind when making your decision.

Hopefull, this information can help you figure out which monitor is right for your budget and home. The trick is to figure out what is most important to you and your family and base your purchase on those things. Your situation may dictate a long battery life is really important.

But, perhaps the ability to keep a visual eye on your child may be the most important concern.
