Marriage, stuff and how the two go together always provides a bit of enjoyable diversion, especially when the person looking at how marriage seems to lead to the accumulation of stuff is single. Surely, they’ll never have heard of many of the items that a married couple brings into their life together but they certainly will not soon after they themselves decide to tie the knot, though that accumulation can be actually enjoyable.
As an example, consider a kitchen. If you are a man the chances are great that you never really gave much thought to appliances or kitchenware. One of the great pleasures, though, of marriage is that many such items are now going to take on an importance we never gave them when we were single. Sitting down with the wife to see if you can afford a new KitchenAid oven is a good example of the phenomenon.
Marriage, of course, is far less about the collection of material things and far more about the collection of spiritual things that a well working marriage can bring to a couple. However, it’s just flat out fun to accumulate cool things — as long as they’re accumulated in a way that can be afforded, of course — together, as husband and wife, most people would say.
Soon enough, if both husband and wife desire it to be so, a baby or two will find its way into the relationship. As far as accumulating things, this is probably the greatest ‘thing’ that any human can gather unto himself or herself. And along with that baby is going to come a number of baby-specific items. So, prepare to get wet from many a session with babies and baby bath tubs.
Just about everybody realizes these days that life can be quite full and pleasing whenever all the right things are done to keep a relationship going in a healthy manner. Working together to help strengthen the relationship and the love that exists within that relationship between two people might be the single most important aspect of any marriage. Never make the mistake of letting stuff, though, given the way of a good marriage.
Now; all of the babies have arrived and life is looking good. One way of proving that is by gathering the family together, including the babies (who belong in something like an Eddie Bauer convertible car seat), and going for a nice Sunday drive to get out there and appreciate the world and what it offers. Never forget that providing for one’s family take priority above everything else, though.
The things that marriage brings into one’s life, then, can be looked at in both a physical and a metaphysical way. Certainly, we will gather things to us that we may want or need just as we should gather things to us — from a spiritual or metaphysical standpoint — that we will definitely need. In the end, knowing what’s important when it comes to a marriage can help anybody bring ‘things’ into the marriage, no matter what those things are.
