How to Throw a Virtual Baby Shower

A baby is a blessing, and therefore must be celebrated. Mom-to-be, especially first time moms, cannot describe the experience, the joy and excitement, but also the worry of not knowing what to expect or what’s to come. All the more reason, to celebrate and make her feel special and loved.

Cute and adorable.decorations, delicious food, and the super fun games, plus overflowing presents are some of the baby shower must-haves that will make any mom-to-be feel special and have all the love and support they need.

Often for family and friends who are far away and spread in different cities and countries, it can be pretty sad to not be able to celebrate with the mom-to-be or parents-to-be in person. However far away, the mom-to-be still need to know you are happy for her and her impending bundle of joy.

If you are the host of the baby shower and you are either with the mom-to-be or also far away and you have guest list who are spread across the globe, you can organize for a virtual baby shower.

Virtual meet-ups and gatherings have become a trend tbese days. Here are some ideas how you can throw a virtual baby shower:

  1.   Plan the Guest List with the mom-to-be to ensure that it includes all those long distance dear family and friends.
  2.   Pick a theme that is gender neutral or gender fit, from barbies to mickey mouse or disney inspired. It’s the theme that creates the fun .
  3.   Work on the Backdrop. This needs a little of creativity, and you can also ask the mom-to-be to decorate her space that reflects the showrer theme, while you create the virtual backdrop.
  4.   Pick a platform and add background. There are so many virtual conference platforms to choose from. Top of the list is ZOOM, and you can easily play around with the background using the platform or other applications.
  5.   Cake is a must-have. Whether in-person or virtual baby shower, baby showers always need a lovely cake for the mom-to-be.
  6.   Treats. It ain’t a party if guests don’t get to enjoy some party treats. You can ask guests to make their own cupcakes or cookies, and share their baking skills.
  7.   Don’t forget the fun activities and games. There are so many games that can be played virtually. Check out some of my posts on games for virtual baby shower.
  8.   Lastly, don’t forget about the thank you gift. It serves to make the virtual party special and memorable no matter the distance.

WHAT TO WEAR FOR BABY SHOWER

Whatever event or party you are attending, wether it is a formal event or birthday party or a wedding or just a picnic party, finding the right outfit to wear can be tough.

It is hard to explain why, but there are parties like baby showers where you can’t seem to find the right outfit. You are caught in this old dilemma, “how fancy should I look?” Although you know that attending baby shower you have to look cute but very well put together, but you also know that you should not look like you are attending a formal dinner or a wedding for that matter.

You don’t want to be overdressed or dressed as if you are in a wrong event. Ofcourse, you don’t want that, so here are some outfit ideas for baby shower that you can use or probably put a twist on:

MIDI DRESSES

Flowy dressss like midi dress is a really great casual style that is easy breezy. Especially the ones with simple patterns like floral design or mini polka dots or abstract design, and basic colors or pastel. With midi dresses with these patterns and colors, you can wear any shoe and bag. But it would be best if you wear open wedge shoes or a simple white casual sneakers or plump shoes to achieve that chic and comfy look. This outfit works well whether indoor or outdoor parties and whatever time of the day.

JUMPSUIT OR OVERALL

Jumpsuits are chic but simple and super easy to style. A simple jumpsuit is perfect for bridal showers, rehearsal dinners, and including baby showers. Choose basic colors or simple patterns like floral prints and you will look a little edge but super comfy. Just add a little bit jewelry and put on some wedge shoes or high heels, and you’ll definitely look it.

BLOUSE AND JEANS OR PANTS

Nothing beats a soft flowy or cottony polo shirt or blouse over a trendy pair of jeans. You can wear them with heels or wedge or sneakers and plump shoes. Opt for a neutral tone for pants or jeans and pastel colored blouse or polo shirt. You will definitely look and feel comfortable all party long, whether participating with games or just sitting and watching the festivities.

SKIRTS

Mini or pencil skirts paired with pastel colored or patterned blouses will give you that flare and chic look. Wear them with simple heels or wedge shoes and you’re ready for any shower party, not just baby showers.

You can also opt for a leather high waist skirt. You might think it odd to wear leather for baby shower, but leather skirts are cool and chic when paired with soft silky blouse. Leather will give you that unique look, but also feel comfy and confident. You can wear them with simple heels or wedge shoes.

BLAZERS OR JACKET

You can never go wrong with blazer or jacket. You can wear them over dresses or skirts and pants. Blazers are super chic and easy to mix and match with anything. Jackets too like cargo or crop or corporate are super cool and works well with everything. If you want to look extra trendy, you can go full monochrome like wearing blazer with matching pants or shorts or mini skirt.

Finally, I these ideas won’t limit your choices. These are just ideas that you can wear for a baby shower, but there are certainly other style and looks that works for baby shower. You don’t really have to worry much about being overdressed or something, just remember that the look you are trying to achieve is something that is chic, but simple and comfy. Just wear what makes you comfortable and you will never go wrong.

ZOOM Baby Shower

Often times it’s hard to gather our loved ones together, even on special days or events like baby shower. Most of our family and friends are spread-out in different cities and countries that it is  really impossible to have everyone around anytime. It’s a miracle if you could, because there’s always one or two who can’t make it due to work, distance and mostly because of travel cost.

But with the technology these days, the impossible may seem possible. There are various meeting or gathering space platforms online. Although not in-person, but closer because you can see each other via live online video.

One of the most popular online space platforms is “ZOOM.” It is a commonplace now for all sorts of gatherings: for work or school or business, and  for parties including baby shower.

ZOOM baby shower has been a thing nowadays, it is affordable and practical for both the host, and the guests especially. It is also easy to prapare and plan, and it is inclusive because you can include all the mom-to-be or parents-to-be’s loved ones wherever they are in this world. And it can easily be combined with an in-person guests.

Now, if you are worried whether everyone you wish to invite are familiar with the platform, well guess what? Ofcourse they know how to use ZOOM. If there is anything good brought about by the pandemic, it kind of forced almost everyone to know how to use online space platforms. Almost everyone has experienced using ZOOM, wether for work or school or business or personal or for fun and for gatherings.

Most likely that your guests have already used ZOOM. And it has become the most opt-used video conferencing platform because of its friendly usability. You can host or invite up to 49 members in a video chat at one time, and you can use the platform for free for up to 40 minutes and you can easily another meeting for another 40 minutes of free use. But even if you have to pay for subscriotion, it doesn’t really cost much.

ZOOM baby shower could really save you serious cash. You don’t need to rent for a venue, no need to spend on decorations because ZOOM has many backdrop or background feautures, plus there also many apps online you can use for this. There is also no need to spend on food, which takes up almost 50? of the expenses for any party for that matter. If you have to prepare food, atleast only for the celebrant, and if you have some in-person guests. All your ZOOM guests can each prepare their own food and they’ll be more than glad to do that, no need to tell I suppose.

And because you have saved so much on the supposed expenses, you can put a bit of extra for the games and activities, perhaps some giveaways and prizes for added fun. And above all, you and the guests could make use of the supposed expenses to help out the mom-to-be or parents-to-be prepare all the essentials needed for childbirth and after childbirth.

Finally, if you’re wondering what can the guests do on an online gathering? Well, they can do a lot of activities. In my previous posts I have shared games and activities for an online baby shower. You can explore them or use the ideas for inspiration as you plan for your own activities. In fact, almost all of the in-person activities can easily be modified for online. It is even better online because of the many online feautures you can use like backdrops and backgrounds, sound effects, and all those animated stuff you can play around to help make your activities more fun and lively.

There really is not much of a difference whether you have online or in-person baby shower. Online is even preferred these days because of its practicality, and it’s become so easy to use. So if you are planning for a baby shower and you are having a tough time with guest list coming from different parts of the world, arranging your guests available time just so everyone could come, why not opt for ZOOM baby shower? Im pretty sure the mom-to-be will appreciate it, knowing that having the shower online  would allow everyone to join, wherever they are.  Plus, your guests will be more than glad.

BABY SHOWER ON A BUDGET IS NO DIFFERENT FROM EXPENSIVE BABY SHOWER

First of all, it doesn’t matter hoe much the baby shower have cost you. At the end of the day, it’s whether the mom-to-be and the guests (including you) had fun or not. Noone is going to ask about the expenses.

Oftentime, it is only the host who worries about having a budget-friendly baby shower, thinking that it might look and feel cheap or that you as the host really didn’t care. Well, guess what? That is all in your head.

If you are hosting a baby shower and you are super worried, my advice to you is to opt for a less expensive one. If and when you have extra and can afford an expensive one, might as well use that extra for the mom-to-be’s impending motherhood. Be practical, it’s a single day event, not even a day but a couple of hours.

Let me tell you this, your guests are not joining the shower to evaluate the food or decors, but they are coming for the mom-to-be or parents-to-be. They just really want to join in the celebration and make the expecting mom or parents feel special by showing their love and support. They don’t care where the venue is, they won’t care if the decors are DIY or made-to-order from an expensive craft store, and they don’t care if you are serving homemade finger foods or food from a fancy restaurant. All that matters is to be there for the mom or parents-to-be.

But, it doesn’t mean because they don’t care what you have for the shower, then you need not bother on planning. Ofcourse you have to plan, but what I am telling you is “chill out” and don’t worry too much if you have to do a baby shower on a budget.

Here’s how you can save on the budget:

First is your guest list. If it is going to be an in-person shower, might as well keep it small and intimate. Gather the closest friends and family of the mom-to-be. You can always have another for the others, the idea is to keep it small.

Second, because invitees are closest to the celebrant, then surely some of them (if not all) would be more than glad to help. Don’t hesitate to accept offers of help and to co-host.

Third, opt for DIY on everything for the shower that can be done by yourself and the other guests who wanted to help. There are so many DIY ideas you can follow for the decorations to begin with. You can make use of some old stuff to create interesting decors.

Following the decors, you and your guests can do the traditional practice of bringing your own food to share. You can assign each one a certain food or finger foods, and then put them all together.

Lastly, the most important thing really is what activities to do for the shower. These are what will make the party fun, special, and memorable for you and the mom-to-be. And because all the invitees are closest and dearest to the expecting mom or parents, then they would know what will make the mom happy and feel special. You can plan what activities to do together with some of the guests. That way, you can have fun yourself.

So to sum it all up, you don’t need to spend a lot. You can easily and comfortably organize it in your own backyard or garden or in one of the mom-to-be’s friend’s house. And if you saved from all the supposed expenses, you can use that savings to help out the mom-to-be for all the essentials she’ll need, especially after childbith.

The impending motherhood and all its challenges is not going to end on a baby shower. The shower is just a celebration, the reality kicks-in after the baby is born.  That is the purpose of baby shower, to help out the mom-to-be prepare all that she and the baby will need. So if you can save on the shower and use that savings to help mom-to-be on this, then that would be better. But, if you have like extra-extra budget, then why not go grandiouso.
