Earth Friendly Baby Shower Gift Registry Must-Haves

First of all, you don’t need to be a vegan or vegetarian or all-organic kind of person, to say that you care about the planet earth. There are certainly other ways. If you care about the environment now, you will think about it more once you have your little bundle of joy. You want to make a healthy space for them – clean surrounding, fresh air and just about everything being safe.

Fact is, your choice of baby clothes for one or baby bottles or bassinet can actually impact the environment, and in turn your little bundle. So you would want to think about the stuff you’ll need for your baby – the right stuff that are environmentally safe and safe for the baby as well.

And you would want to consider that when you come up with your baby shower gift registry. I know it can be pretty overwhelming putting up the registry, it’s your first time to be a parent, so that is normal. But, it can be even more overwhelming now that you have to make sure you’re putting items in the registry that are eco-friendly. Well not to worry, here’s a guide to help you curate your environmentally-friendly baby shower gift registry.

1. Baby Clothes, Sheets, and Swaddles
In case you don’t know, a baby’s skin is actually 30% thinner than a normal adult skin. This means that their skin is really delicate and sensitive, and therefore they are vulnerable to absorbing harmful chemicals that may be sprayed on non-organic fabrics or textiles.

So when you are registering for baby wears, make sure to include details that they are made from organic fibers or fabrics. It is best to pick the items that are “GOTS Certified Organic Cotton” which means that the item is made from a fabric that is atleast 95% organic fiber. Meaning, the item meets the highest standards as far as being earth-friendly and safe is concerned.

In addition, organic fibers are also super breathable, which then helps make your baby feel cool, whether they are wearing onesies or jumpsuits or those cute pajamas with their socks and hats.

2. Baby Bottles
Well, you can find a lot of plastic baby bottles that are labelled “BPA Free” – meaning they are free of industrial chemicals that are used to make certain plastics of which these chemicals are hormone disruptors.

But, recent studies show that these plastic baby bottles, although free of BPA also contain microscopic plastic particles. Although scientists are not yet certain of its impact on baby’s health, but two things are for sure: plastic bottles are not the most eco-friendly choice, and it’s “plastic.”

So when you’re registering for baby bottles, choose glass or stainless steel baby bottles instead. The good thing is that these days, there are a lot of ligher options of these kind of material, and they also come with silicone sleeves.

3. Skin Care Products
Because the baby’s skin is super delicate and sensitive and are vulnerable to harmful chemicals, you need to be careful in choosing skin care prosucts: shampoo, bath soaps, lotions, baby wipes and others.

Make sure you include in the registry that these skin care products are chemical-free. Plus, it is best to pick products that are fragrance-free, phthalate and paraben-free, and made with simple imgredients.

4. Toys and Decorations
There are a lot of really cute and bright-colored plactic toys in the market that will surely catch your baby’s attention and keep them entertained. Although, plastic toys are durable and washable, they are not eco-friendly for reasons we mentioned above about plastic baby bottles.

Studies also show that plastic toys contain more than 100 chemicals, all of which are harmful to your child. Plus, plastics stick around for eons and only contribute to further harming mother earth.

So register toys and decors that are made of natural materials, like wooden toys or organic stuffed animals and sorts.

There are certainly other items in your gift registry that also need to be eco-friendly as well. But, these are some of the most essential baby items. They are the most used of the baby items – clothes for instance are worn by the baby all the time, so you want to make sure that on top of comfort, the material they are waering is safe.

It is generally okay to include details in your baby registry – informing your guests to choose the items are made from organic, chemical-free materials, and that they are safe and earth-friendly.

Overlooked Baby Shower Gift Registry Items – Part 2

In my previous post, I have shared some baby items that are often overlooked in baby shower gift registry. Here are more baby items that are often missed out, but are very useful and comes in handy when the time comes.

1. Bath Kneeler
Here is another item that most would easily skip. Well, I get it. But, this is a real game changer. Yes, you can bathe your baby anywhere in the house, but more often than not parents had to do it the bathroom. And most of the time, they had to kneel on the cold and hard tiled floor to carefully bathe the baby.

Usually the bathing could turn into some play time, water splashing and all. And it can be pretty hard on the knees after kneeling for almost half an hour or more. This kneeler is a real saver and makes your job comfy. You’ll denitely thank that one friend or relative of yours who got you this gift.

2. Soft Pants
I get it, those cute onesies and pajamas really naver fail to make everyone swoon and pass them around to look at. But as some point, babies need to wear pants too, especially when you’re out and about. Soft pants are super comfy for babies and makes diaper changing really easy as oppose to overalsl or jumpsuits.

3. Swaddle
A swaddle is amazing. It can serve as a nursing cover or burping cloth. It’s breathable and soft. It’s very useful especially when you’re on the go or out for some outdoor activities. It helps you carry the baby around and allows you to do other things.

4. White Noise Machine
This is a great baby shower gift. Although may not look cute and get rounds of “awwws” from your guests, but they really prove useful. It is proven and tested to help soothe babies and quell upsets, and helps babies fall asleep or stay awake.

This machine is really responsive to baby’s cries, especially when you’re on the go or visiting a family or friend or when you’re out some place. It can easily be strapped in baby crib or strollers or cuddled. It is also very portable and can easily be stacked in your bag along with all the other baby essentials.

5. Post Partum Healing Items
This is probably the least popular baby shower gift and the not-so-fun must haves. Who wants to get something that would remind them of what they’ll go thru and experience after child birth? But, these gift set prooves to be beneficial for moms especially. Gives you all that soothing things that you’ll need, including the must-have items like pads and panty liners, maxis and disposable underwears. You’ll thank the friend who got you this for sure.

Finally, I hope you find this and the previous post helpful and informative for your gift registry. Like I said last time, they may not be the cute and adorable baby items that your guests will be swooning and passing around to adore, but they are very useful later, especially for you as parents. You’ll definitely appreciate them when the time comes, and thank that aunt or friend who got you the gift.

I highly recommend you consider adding them into to your baby shower gift registry.

Overlooked Baby Shower Gift Registry Items

Creating a baby shower gift registry is exciting and fun, but it can also be a little bit stressful and confusing, especially when there Is noone to guide the parents-to-be.

You might be asking yourself – is this too much? How many is too much? Is it fine to put expensive items? What items should I take off from the gift registry? So on and so forth.

Now if you consult expert parents, you’ll realize that there are actually baby items that are often missed out, but when situation comes, they are actually really essential.

Here’s a list of items that often overlooked by parents-to-be when they are coming up with their baby shower gift registry:

1. Humidifier
I get it, this isn’t an item you’d think of first when you’re the one buying the gift. It is not the kind of item that will result in a lot of “awwww” upon opening like those cute baby clothes and shoes. It won’t be an item that will be passed around the guests to look at. But, they come very handy and useful when the situation comes where the baby is congesting with dry, flaky skin and having difficulty to fall back to sleep.

You as parent will definitely thank that aunt or friend of yours for gifting that sinus-healing, and sleep-helping cool humidifier. Saves you from that long sleepless night.

2. Nightlight
Okay this is another item that may not get that round of “awww” upon opening, but these are actually some cute nightlights that come with the brightness control, white noise, lullabies, and some cool features for older years and more.

This is actually helpful for parents to change diapers in the middle of the night and swaddle your baby without having to flip on the bright lights.

3. Outdoor Blanket
Here is another item that most folks wouldn’t think of when selecting baby shower gifts. But, outdoor blankets are really useful. It can be used indoors when you need something soft to set the baby down. It is sturdy and water resistant which is good for drippy, sloppy, and leaky babies. And it’s a perfect blanket for park visits and outdoor activities.

4. Baby Wipes
Guests love to gift diapers. They even try to fashion it by putting some raffles, wrapping it well, or fashion them into festive baby shower cake. Often too diapers are used for fun activity in baby showers, each box of diapers in exchanged with a raffle to win baby shower prizes.

Baby wipes on the other hand, have more use than diapers and need just as much if not more, are often overlooked and not treated the same.

5. Wet Bag
Just like baby wipes, this one is another item that is often missed out. Guests won’t think of it when choosing baby shower gift. But this item is actually a life saver and a very good parent pal.

A water bag is a waterproof bag for holding wet, dirty or poop covered baby items, and keeping them away from the other baby items when you are on the go. You’ll definitely thank that one friend or relative who gifts you this when the time comes.

These items may not be the kind of baby shower gifts that will collect rounds of “awwws” and make your guests swoon nor will it be an item that will be passed around for everyone to look at and even take pictures of. But, when the time comes, they are very useful and found to be a life saver.

While you are listing all those cutesy adorable baby items, consider including these items in your gift registry and you’ll definiely thank the ones who will gift you these. In my next post, I will be sharing more baby shower items that are often missed out in the gift registry.

Mommyhood, especially for first time expecting mom is going to take a lot of toll on her. During pregnancy, she’ll go thru hormonal changes that could cause her to feel all sorts of pregnancy related challenges – emotionally, mentally, and physically most of all. Apart from all the discomforts and pains, morning sickness, mood swings, nausea, and more.

Like I said, pregnancy during and after is going to take a lot of toll on the mom-to-be. Often all those she goes thru psychologically and emotionally is often the effect of the changes she’ll experience physically. Pregnancy is really going to affect a woman’s body – yes pregnancy and mommyhood is a wonderful experience, but it comes with a fair share of physical concerns.

If you are planning for the gift registry, it would be great to have one where the focus is the mom-to-be and the essentials she’ll need to take care of her body and her skin, and to help ease the emotional effects of the body and skin changes caused by mommyhood.

She’ll need essential skincare, and some self pampering to help keep her glow, and some exercise sessions to help bring back her body after childbirth.

Here are some skincare essentials you have to include in the gift registry – especially for the mom-to-be:

  1.   Stretch Marks Cream or Moisturizer – best to start using this during pregnancy, because it hydrates and moisturizes the skin to prevent or lessen the appearance of strech marks. It also nourishes the skin to sooth tightness and discomfort in the skin and making it feel comfortable, smooth and supple.

  2.    Stretch Marks Oil – applying it during and after pregancy help reduce the appearance of newly formed stretch marks. It helps restore, refresh and smoothen the skin.

  3.   Stretch Marks Serum – it can be used during and after pregnancy. It is hydrates and moisturizes the skin to help minimize the appearance of stretch marks, and gives your skin the plump look and feel.

  4.   Organic Nursing Comfort Balm – it helps sooth the nipples and makes nursing comfortable. It moisturizes the nipples to ease discomfort during breastfeeding, and it restores the skin during and after breastfeeding.

Mom-to-be needs some self-pampering, especially after pregnancy. Here are some self-pampering gifts she’ll definitely appreciate:

  1.   Gift Cards – gift her with spa certificate for a day of self pampering – get that body massage, facials, hair spa, manicure and pedicure and all that whole body pampering. Make sure that the gift certificate is open date, so she can go anytime. This could also be turned into a bonding time with the girls.

  2.   Recovery Care Kit – this may include the items listed above – skincare essentials, along with other essentials that will give her that much needed pampering like scented candles, calming teas, and a good book of her favorite author.

  3.   Gym/Fitness Class for New Moms – gift her with a subscription to a gym of fitness class especially designed for new moms. This is an exercise that helps new moms gradually return to their old body. This can be coupled with a subscription to daily healthy diet meal that will be delivered to her.

Whether you gift mom-to-be with the skincare essentials or for self pampering, make sure that you choose the one that is safe for both the mom and her baby. Any of these gifts will surely make the mom-to-be feel loved and cared for.
